Something is up

Something is up. That strange blue thing is out on the bed, and they are putting clothes into it. This is not good! It means that somebody is going away, and I don't know who!

Other than that, the days have been good. If it's not too hot we go out for a walk, otherwise it's just a dogs' life of sleeping and eating and love from Mommy and Daddy. Sometimes friends come over, and there is the rare peanut butter jar to clean up, but that's about it. I'll post more when I know who is leaving.

Mommy's Sick

I was enjoying having Mommy home and being her "little shadow" as she calls me when I noticed that she wasn't quite acting like herself. She was spending a lot of time laying on the couch watching TV. Hey, I enjoy myself a good lazy day now and again, but almost the whole week?
When I go up to her she feels hot and has a terrible cough. I hate to say this, but at times when she coughs it hurts my ears. I know that it is hurting Daddy's ears too, because he has said so.

My conclusion to all of this is that Mommy is sick. She is sleeping a lot, coughing a lot, watching a lot of TV, and just not herself. I will be happy when she is over whatever it is that she has. A sick Mommy is not a fun Mommy.

MOMMY CAME HOME!!!

Oh my... I'm so excited!!! Mommy finally came home!!!

Today looked just like yet another lonely day without Mommy. Daddy let me out a little after regular time and it was all just the same routine. Food, Potty, Treat, Daddy goes and stands in the water. Then, a bit of a change: Daddy gave me peanut butter and left. A bit unusual, but not totally. Well, he came back and I was very excited to see him. He didn't stay inside, though. He went out back and did some things, then would walk out to the front and come back with this big white bag on his shoulder. (Those bags turned out to have dirt in them, which is confusing to me because we already have dirt in the back so why do we need more? It's not like those white bags made the dirt special or something.)

This went on for a little while, and then he came in and put my collar on me. That means a ride for me, and that usually means a trip to my favorite place. Not today, though. We didn't drive for long when he parked and did NOT give me a treat when he got out. Let me tell you, I let him know about that! And can you believe, HE IGNORED ME! He wasn't inside the place very long at all, so I didn't even have time to nose around the truck. It smelled like he had food in there earlier in the day, but none of it got brought home to me so it did me no good. He got back in and pretty much just moved the truck to a different spot and then got back out. This time, I was able to see him the whole time. This is where the trip got a little odd. This place had huge piles of dirt all over, and Daddy went over and put some dirt into white bags. Ah Ha! This is where they came from! Now, I still don't understand why this dirt is any different than the dirt we already had at home, but hey, if it makes him happy, I'll deal with a little strangeness.

Back home we went, and I got put inside again. It was getting warm outside, so Daddy closed up the windows and doors and then went back to his strange little routine: do things in back, then go and get a bag of dirt, and then do more things in back. I watched for a little while, but then got bored and went in for a nap. Quite a while later, he came in (smelling like that different dirt) and went and stood in the water for a while. That was odd. He usually only does that right when we get up, or when he cuts the grass (which is weird all by itself, but he seems to do that every week.)

After he got dressed again, he talked on the phone and then we went for another ride. Two rides in a day... must be something going on. We went to a food place, but not my favorite one. We went to the one that stubbornly refuses to even look at me, let alone give me a treat. We weren't back home long before the doorbell rang. I ran to see who it was. When Daddy opened the door, there was Mommy!!! I was sooo excited I gave her kisses and ran around and gave her more kisses! I am happy to say that I have just gotten up from a nap with all three of us on the bed. Now it's time to see all the stuff that Mommy brought in with her. Most of it smells like her regular old stuff (that strange blue thing is back) but some of it is very new and needs a good smelling.

No Mommy, but I got in Trouble

I wanted to write yesterday, but I got into trouble. About the middle of the day, Daddy took me outside and told me that I should do my business. Well, I squatted, but then I got distracted by some bugs, and then I smelled something different and had to follow that, but that just led to more bugs. I think Daddy was in a bad mood or something, because we didn't stay out long. Daddy gave me peanut butter, and then he left.

I tried to be a good girl. I really tried! I had to make a pile sooo bad, and I just couldn't hold it any longer. Well, when Daddy got home he yelled at me. A Lot. He also would not let me on the computer to do my post. I think he's still a little mad at me, but things are slowly getting better. Except for still no Mommy.

Where IS she? Why did she leave? We went for a walk this morning and I couldn't even smell her anymore. Well, ok, I could smell her, I AM a Beagle... helloooo... one of the best dog noses... but it was the same old smells from when she left. This is getting depressing. Life seems to go on here without her, but it isn't the same. I think even Daddy misses her. He has been moving around more when he sleeps since she left.

Well, it's time for my afternoon nap. I suppose that tomorrow will be yet another day without her.

Still No Mommy!

I'll keep this short. The title says it all.

I am depressed. I keep going to the door every time I hear something that I think is Mommy, but it never is. I've gone from sticking by Daddy all day to starting to look at the door more. It's not helping. I think Daddy is talking to her on the phone, but he doesn't tell me. In fact, all he tells me is to get out of the kitchen, or that whatever I heard it isn't Mommy at the door.

I'm going to go sulk some more...

WHERE'S THE MOMMY?!?!

Let me start by saying that last week was pretty good. For some reason, Mommy started sleeping later and Daddy started letting me out in the mornings. At first I thought it was a weekend, but after several days like this I just decided to accept it and enjoy it. More time with Mommy is always good. Then came yesterday...

Yesterday, we all got up early like it was a regular day, so I thought that things would be normal. Too hot to walk (thankfully Daddy figured out a long time ago that since I have a yard we don't need to go for walks in the heat) so a quick trip out for needed things and then back into the nice cool house. Well, Mommy had spent the day before putting all kinds of things into those big blue boxes that they take with them when they leave me alone for a long time, and that should have been my tip to be wise, but I ignored it. So, up early and then Daddy goes out front and there is Auntie Laurie! I got to go out and say hi to her without a collar! Talk about a rare treat! I tried to sneak off to explore the neighborhood, but everybody was watching me and I got lured back inside with the promise of treats (I'm such a sucker for that.) They took a bunch of things out to Auntie Laurie's car and closed the door behind them and kept me in, so I stood there waiting patiently. Daddy came in, but not Mommy. After a few minutes of no Mommy, I decided that she went somewhere and would be back later.

Well, bed time came and still no Mommy. Daddy started talking on the phone, and when he does that when it's close to bed time that usually means that Mommy is just about home. I got all excited and went to the door and waited. Daddy called me back and stuck something by my ear and I thought I could hear Mommy talking to me, so I ran to the door again. No Mommy. Daddy took me outside for my evening relief, and then gave me my treats and put me to bed. I went to sleep waiting for Mommy, figuring that she would be home very late and that I would get to sleep in with her tomorrow (today.)

This morning, Daddy got me up again and we did the usual morning things, and then he went in to stand in the water. I looked around the house. No Mommy! I sniffed all over, but her scent was starting to fade. This made me sad, so I went and hid in my safe spot under the bed. Since then, I have been out for two rides today with Daddy. Once in his truck (this whole thing with Mommy missing has got me so upset that I forgot to order breakfast, but they know me there so I got what I wanted anyway) and then in Mommy's car. We drove for a bit and then Grandpa got in. That was nice to see him, but I had to ride in the back seat, which I don't like much. After he got out I got to get back into the front for the ride home. So, now we're home, but still no Mommy.

All of this has got me tired, so I'm going to take a nap. I'll write more later.

What a Day!

Yesterday was strange. It all started in the morning. Things were moving along as normal, but then they started to get odd. Daddy made a treat for me like he was leaving. For me, this is instantly something to be considered. Daddy stays home with me now, so why would he leave? Sure enough, out the door he went with Mommy and there I stood, treat in my mouth wondering what was going on. I settled in to have some peanut butter and wait for him to come back. After a while, I got tired of waiting by the door and looked out of the windows... no Daddy. What the heck? When I got tired of waiting by the other door, I went and sulked under the bed. It's my safe spot where I go when I am in trouble or tired of waiting or sad.

A long while later, Daddy came home. You'd think that I would be happy, and I was at first, but then I got closer. DADDY SMELLED LIKE ANOTHER DOG!!! And not just 1 dog, but 4 DOGS!!! I too my time smelling him all over. It certainly cooled my response to him being home, but I was glad to have him home anyway. After that, things were better. He sat down at the computer and started playing a game. Not work, but it's still the same thing to me... sitting in the chair ignoring me. About lunchtime we went for a walk, which was nice since I didn't get one in the morning. Well, it was a short walk, like it was morning, and I was not happy about that. Then, we come back home and he puts my collar on me. I'm thinking, "food run!" Yes indeed, we get in the truck and head out. The truck was HOT inside, but he put the wind on me and that started feeling better. More bad then, because we went to the place that doesn't even care that I am in the truck and waiting for My order, let alone his. Well, Daddy gave me a treat, but I wanted one from the window and it just didn't happen. I think this is because there is only one window at this place and not two like at the other place. So, back home we go.

No, not back home we go. He started driving, and eating, and driving more. We drove a long time, and I had to sit there and smell all of that food, and then all of the food was gone (and not a scrap left for me) and all I could do was lay there and wait. FINALLY we stopped, but Daddy was talking on the phone. Well, talk about surprised, we were at Mommy's school! Cool! I get to see Mommy! I was all wiggles and grins, but then things went different Again. There were kids in the room, and I mean a LOT of them. All wanting to touch me at once, and all I wanted to do was smell around (somebody had put something that smelled Really Good somewhere) and my other usual things when I come out there, but no. Sit on the table. Let the kid pet me. Eat a treat here and there (ok, so that was a good part, but still, what I had to endure to get those treats...) and just sit there. Finally, Daddy let me down and we went outside. Lots to smell, and at least I get to see all of the kids that make those smells. After a short time outside (and I do mean short) we went back inside. Daddy and I went over my Mommy's little room (she says office) and I got to lay down for a while without the kids being all over me. Oh, they still came over, one or two at at a time, but it was at least a break from the mob.

Finally, all of the kids left, but then so did Mommy! Daddy let me walk all around the room and smell whatever I wanted. There was something very interesting in a box, but I couldn't get into it. After a few minutes, Daddy and I got back into the truck (no Mommy) and started the long drive home. It was good to be home to my nice quiet house. Funny thing is, when Mommy got home I wasn't as excited to see her as I normally am. I mean, I had just seen her a little while before, so it wasn't like she had been gone all day.

Anyway, I slept good last night, and today I am back into my normal routine. I think tonight is the night that Mommy is usually out very late, but after all of the excitement yesterday, I'm not sure. I guess there's nothing to do but take a nap and see.

Ordering Breakfast

Just a quick little thing for you. I've learned how to order breakfast at the local drive-thru! Let me explain a bit before you think that I'm just wandering in and being served...

This morning, Daddy and I went for a drive. I had a sneaking suspicion that it was for him to go get breakfast, so I went along even though I decided to not go on my morning walk due to being up late last night and having my routine disrupted (Mommy was out quite late, but that's another story for another time.) Anyway, into the truck we went, and sure enough, he pulled up to the thing that talks to him by the pictures of food. He talked to the thing, and it just didn't seem to me like he had given them any instructions as to what I was wanting (biscuits, please) so I spoke up. Daddy seemed quite surprised and quickly told me to be quiet. It's not like I am a talker, so he really should let me have my say when I feel like saying it.

So, he drove around the corner and up to the little window, and there stands a nice man waiting to take the funny square thing from Daddy. Before Daddy can even hand him that thing, out comes two biscuits for me! Can we say "Jackpot!"? Well, I was quite happy! We pulled up to the next window (the food window) and Daddy said something about me needing "a third one, thanks..." and I have to say I got a little indignant. There was a biscuit with my name on it, and it was being denied to me! Anyway, I did get my usual treat for going on a ride, so I guess the trip wasn't a total loss. I did get a new skill, and I call that an accomplishment for all dogs! Rise up, fellow hounds, and give the talk box your food order!

Adventures in Walking

We have had some crazy weather the last few days. First, it was really hot, and I don't do the heat well. I do not enjoy walking in the heat. When we lived in the apartment I would go out, do my business, and head straight back for our apartment. Now that we have a yard I can quickly go out, do my business and go back into the comfort of air conditioning.

Yesterday the weather was a lot cooler, in fact it was raining in the morning. Daddy suggested that after dinner we all take a walk. Mommy was watching the news and saw that there was a patch of wet heading our way. Daddy got my leash and as we were heading out the door mentioned that it was raining, Mommy rolled her eyes at him and told him that she had just said that. So, they grabbed the umbrella, and we head out.

Because it was raining Daddy said that we were going to turn around at the corner. We were heading back and all of a sudden there was a BIG flash of light in the sky immediately followed by a loud BOOM! Daddy yelled at Mommy to get the umbrella down, and said that was only about a mile away. He started pulling on my leash and said let's go! So we high tailed it home. On our way home we heard another big boom, but didn't see any more flashes. When we got home Daddy set about turning the computers off (that is why I couldn't post this last night) and saying that he hoped there wasn't any damage and that it wasn't to late.

This morning Mommy and Daddy took me on a really long walk. It was nice out this morning with blue skies and clean air. There were a lot of good things to smell and I enjoyed the walk, even though toward the end I just wanted to find some shade and sit for a while, but I kept on going because Daddy said that we were not far from home.

Next time I'm not so sure that I will be as anxious to go for a walk when it is raining, and the air smells as it did last night. That flash of light (Mommy called it lightning), and those big booms (Daddy called them thunder) were scary.

Long Lonely Day

That vacation thing was great, I got into a nice routine. I would get let out of my sleeping house by Daddy, get breakfast, go outside, and then go back to sleep with Mommy for a few more hours. Then when Mommy got up I would get up with her and follow her all around the house. Don't get me wrong, I love Daddy, he's my Alpha in the house. But let's face it, I am more likely to get treats and other good stuff from Mommy, she is much more into the sharing thing than Daddy is, I think it is the kindergarten teacher in her.

Then today it all changed. Mommy let me out of my sleeping house, fed me breakfast, and let me outside before she went and got into the shower. No sleeping in! That should have been my first warning sign. After the shower Mommy was putting clothes on, drying her hair, and doing her other morning things. She didn't go out and have breakfast, play on the computer, or sit down in front of the TV. Then she gave me loves and said goodbye! She was gone all day! That's when it hit me that her vacation must be over. I moped, that's what Daddy calls it, around the house for most of the day, laying in front of the door so that I would be able to hear her when she came in. When I finally gave up and was in the office with Daddy for a while I heard her come home! I was so excited.

On to a few other things. I had been waiting for Mommy to download the camera to post some pictures, and she finally got around to it. I've been wanting to post some pictures, because someone once said that it makes the blog more interesting and makes people want to read it.

This first picture is of my playing with my green golf ball. I love this ball! As I chase it around it drops pieces of food out of it. How much better than that can you get. It's a great distraction for me when Mommy and Daddy have to leave.

My next pictures are of me at the last Beagle Meet up that we went to. The first picture shows what I love to do at the dog park, SMELL THINGS! Were you expecting something different? I know that some dogs go there to play, and I have on rare occasion been known to do a little bit of that, but I would just rather walk around and just follow my nose. The second picture here is of me telling Mommy and Daddy that I am ready to go.

Oh, Mommy and I are all caught up on our guilty pleasure of reading Fred and Hank Mark America (I have a link to it on the side here). Daddy just shakes his head when he sees it on the screen. Mommy has read him parts of it and he either has a good laugh, or just shakes his head and says "That's bad, that is just bad." I LOVE all of the pictures of Fred and Hank that the people put on the blog.

Well it is almost time for bed. I better sign off so that I can go and check the kitchen for crumbs.

Loving Fred and Hank

I took a few days off, Mommy and I were catching up on Fred & Hank Mark America. We are finally up to date on that GREAT blog. There are some fantastic pictures of some really cute Beagles as well. Mommy commented to Daddy that maybe we should take a long driving trip and he gave her a funny look and said, "Are you crazy?" Does that mean that we are not going?

I'm really loving having Mommy home. Today my cousin came over and visited. She loves how soft my ears are! I got to go for a ride in the truck when we took her home. That meant an extra treat! I always get a treat when I get home from a ride.

Shopping Trip

So I've figured out that it is not a holiday and that Mommy is on vacation! I get her home and all to myslef for three whole weeks! Okay, I guess I should say that I don't get her to myself, because I do have to share her with Daddy and the guinea pigs. But, it is great to have her home. I keep following her from room to room and give her grief if she leaves without me. She was singing something to me this morning, "Me, and my shadow; strolling down the avenue; me, and my shadow." What do you think she means by this?

Today Mommy and I went shopping. The first two stops were boring, I had to stay in the car, and Mommy didn't have any treats to give me. Our last stop was my FAVORITE stop! We went to PetSmart. I love that store. I like it because I get to go in and smell things, and try to get food from under the shelves. In my opinion the PetSmart we went to today was to clean, there was hardly anything on the floor for me to snack on. But as far as PetSmart experiences go, today was pretty far down on the list. When we went to check out the guy didn't even acknowledge me! Hello? I was sitting/standing there all cute and everything. He did not give me my well deserved treat, and I know that he had them there at the register, I could smell them. Luckily Mommy sensed my distress and when we got outside to the car she opened my new bag of treats and gave me one, well two actually, I was distressed after all.

Well I'm going to go for now, I just heard Daddy in the kitchen starting to make lunch, maybe I'll get lucky and he will drop something!

Beagles on the web!

So Mommy was looking at things on the internet, as she often does, when she found this great travelblog. It is about two Beagles who are traveling across the country on vacation with their owners. Since it was about Beagles it caught my interest, and we started reading it. Mommy and I are kind of dorky in the fact that we have to start something from the beginning, so we have only read through day four (or was it five) of their journey, but I think that we will be caught up in a day or so. Let me just say that this is pretty funny, although I think there needs to be a bit more about what Fred and Hank are doing and less about what the humans are doing. I do have to say that the pictures are pretty good, especially of Fred and Hank. So here is the link for you to check it out:

http://fredandhank.typepad.com/fhma/

Maybe some day Mommy, Daddy and I will take a trip like Fred, Hank, and their parents.

Is It a Holiday?

So, I'm a little confused here. I am not sure if it is a holiday or what. From my calculations there were two weekend days, and today should be a work day. How do I know this you ask? Because on weekends Daddy opens my sleeping house, feeds me breakfast, and lets me outside to do my personal stuff. After I come back inside I usually get back in bed with Mommy and go back to sleep for a little while, she is not as early of a riser as Daddy is. On work days Mommy lets me out of my sleeping house, feeds me breakfast, lets me outside to do my personal stuff, and then goes and gets into the shower (which I cannot understand why she WILLINGLY does that). But today, Daddy let me out of my sleeping house and we followed our weekend routine.

I'm not complaining or anything. I love having Mommy home, I'm just wondering if there is a holiday out there that I should be observing or more importantly, getting something for. MAYBE it is International Maggy Day! Nah, that was on March 11th, which is my birthday. When I find out I will be sure to let you know.

Terrible Weekend

It has taken me a week to recover, but last weekend Mommy and I didn't have a good weekend. Our reasons for having bad weekends were entirely separate, but to put it plainly the weekend sucked for both of us.

I will tell you about my bad weekend first, since it is MY blog. I was coping with being home alone because both Mommy and Daddy left on Saturday Morning. I was minding my own business when Daddy came home. Of course, I was happy to see Daddy and even did an appropriate amount of wiggling when he told me that we were going for a ride. I like going for rides with Daddy and sometimes the places he goes to gives me treats. We were in Mommy's car and he turned on the seat for me (read previous post on my opinion of heated seats) and things were going well. We pulled up at Petsmart, I like this place; I think that I should be able to go into a lot of places like I do here. Daddy and I walk in the door, and instead of turning left to get dog food or treats, or turning right to get stuff for the guinea pigs we go straight to the back of the store. That can only mean one thing; BATH! I start putting on the breaks but Daddy drags me along and leaves me with those strange people who do terrible things to me. They gave me a bath, put me in the drying thing that I don't like, and worse of all cut my nails. It took Mommy and Daddy a long time to come and get me too!

Now about Mommy's bad weekend. She went and met Aunt Laurie to go blab, blab, blab. I don't know how they can talk for so long. She left there and went and met Daddy for lunch, this was before he came and got me. She took some of those plastic things out of her wallet (Daddy said it was something called her license and ATM card) to go and pay for her lunch because Daddy had eaten without her. I guess somehow she left those plastic things on the tray and when she got up to go potty one of the workers came and took the tray to throw the stuff away. Mommy was pretty panicked. Daddy was pretty mad and told her that she needs to keep those things in her wallet. So Daddy had to drive her around until she could go to a place called DMV where Daddy and I dropped her off at. She was there for a very long time. The good part of the mess was that she stayed home on Monday so that she could go to that DMV place and we got to sleep in and she was home with me.

Other than that things went back to normal. Mommy is something that Daddy calls stressed. She has been needing extra love from me, but I don't mind.

Okay, enough for now. Sorry I don't have a picture this time, I haven't been in the mood to smile for the camera.

A Quiet Week

The week sure went fast. Both Mommy and Daddy were off of work and being very lazy. The three of us spent a lot of time together on the couch. They were watching TV and Mommy was knitting or cutting stuff apart for her classroom. I slept through most of it. We took walks, I got treats, we went places in the car and truck. *sigh*

Saturday we went to Beagle Meet-up again. My friends Bandit and Kirby were not there, but there were other dogs there that I hadn't met before. Mommy said that it's always good to meet new friends. However, I'm not sure if I would classify one of the dogs as my friend, since he was trying to get very personal with me. He kept trying to kiss me (he was licking the side of my mouth), was following me around, and by the time he left both of the backs of my ears were wet. I did enjoy seeing other Beagles and getting to sniff around the dog park at my own pace instead of Daddy telling me to come along that we are out for a walk and not a sniff.

Mommy and Daddy said that it is one of their New Years Resolutions, whatever those are, to try and take me to more Beagle Meet-ups. That makes me happy!

Well I'm being lured outside with a walk, so I will close for now.
