The last few days have been great. Mommy came home and hasn't left to go to work. She told me that she is on something called summer break. I don't care what it is called I'm just excited that she is here.
Mommy has been taking me on all of my walks, and guess what? She lets me turn right from our driveway! It's exciting because we go a different way every time. Don't get me wrong, I love my Daddy and I love going for walks with him too, but he is kind of predictable. Walks with him are up to the mailbox and back, or sometimes we go to the end of the street. He also tells me that we are out for a walk and not a smell (hello, isn't that what life is all about?) where Mommy lets me stop and smell things along the way.
Well that's all for now, I just wanted to share my happiness.

MOMMY'S HOME!!!
In my last entry I was not a happy camper, and to tell the truth I don't think that Daddy was either. We were sitting in the living room watching TV when I heard the garage door opener. I looked to daddy and he asked me "Maggy, who is at the door?" I didn't know. Then I heard the keys in the door, and guess who it was? MOMMY! At first I couldn't believe my eyes. I started sniffing and it smelled like Mommy. She put the things that she had in her hands down and bent down and gave me hugs and kisses. I was so happy that I gave her kisses back. I danced around with my tail wagging! Mommy even brought me home some treats from wherever she was. I know that this is hard to believe but I was happier to see Mommy than the treats. I know that daddy was happy to see her too, he gave her a big hug and told her it was good to have her back home where she belonged.
Mommy even told me that she was going to be home for the next week! I am so relieved to have her home. I know that we will all sleep well tonight with everyone in their places where they belong.

Still No Mommy...
It's been two days since my last entry, and Mommy is STILL not home. I'm beginning to take more interest in my time with Daddy, but only because I am now wondering when HE'LL be gone too. Grandpa came over this morning, and he and Daddy worked outside for a long time. I don't know how they can do it when the air smells so bad outside. We haven't been going on our walks, and Daddy says that it is because of the bad air. I'm stuck using the backyard, and now Daddy won't even let me go out there today for some reason. Maybe it's what I stepped on when he did let me out there. He got mad at me, and I had to come back inside. Back where it is lonely because there is no Mommy to lay by and get belly rubs and treats from. I miss Mommy so much... I hope she comes home soon. Daddy seems a little upset this afternoon, so I think he misses her too. Either way, I am sad without Mommy.

Something is wrong...
Something is wrong in our home, and I don't know what to do about it. I don't know if there is anything I CAN do about it. I'm only one beagle.
MOMMY DID NOT COME HOME LAST NIGHT!!!
I waited by the door like I normally do. Daddy and I went out on our walk, and it was much later than we normally go. Still no mommy. I waited by the door some more. Still no mommy. Daddy put me to bed (at least he remembered my treat) and I had a restless night. I think Daddy did too. When we got up this morning, STILL NO MOMMY! I looked all around, smelled the driveway where we saw her last, but nothing had changed. Mommy and Daddy put a lot of stuff in her car before she left yesterday, but that happens now and then so I didn't think anything of it.
Well, I've been depressed all day. I've been dreaming that Mommy and I are on a walk together, but when I wake up she's still not here. I even tried laying on the bed and looking lonely, but Daddy was the only one that came in to rub my belly.

Tough Choices
This morning was tough. I tell you, I didn't know what to do. You see mommy was getting on her shoes and telling me that we were going to go for our walk, so I ran into the living room all excited with my tail wagging. Then daddy went into the kitchen and opened the refrigerator and started to get out the guinea pig's breakfast, so I ran in there all excited, because you never know if something is going to fall onto the floor or if daddy will give me something. Then mommy said, "walk" but daddy rustled the plastic bags.... it was too much I tell you. I didn't know which to choose. I kept going back and forth between mommy and daddy. Do you know what they had the nerve to do? Laugh at me! I don't think that is very nice.
Well the torture ended when daddy gave Daphne and Velma their breakfast and mommy put my leash on me and we went for our walk. I was so excited that mommy was walking me in the morning for a change, usually daddy walks me because mommy is going to work and daddy only wants to turn left out of our driveway. Mommy lets me turn right!
Talking about all of this is making me tired again, I better go and take a nap. You never know what I might need my strength for.

Unwanted Guest
My mom has a big heart, this is one of the things that I love about her. She will sneak me extra treats when daddy says that I don't need any. However, this big heart of hers also extends to wanting to save every animal that she comes across, how do you think we ended up with two guinea pigs?
So a few days ago she is at school (mom is a teacher) and sees one of her students almost laying down on the playground when he was suppose to be with the science teacher. So she goes out there and sees that he is trying to catch this little dachshund. Being mom she joins in the quest to get this dog. She was able to get the dog and they put it in a fenced area. Mom told the school secretary not to call the pound on it that if no one claimed it she would take it home, she didn't even check with me first on this! After school the secretary told mom that her little friend was still out there. So mom got the dog and took him into her classroom while she finished her stuff. She called dad and told him about the dog and that she was going to bring it home.
Mom got home with her little friend. Mom and dad wanted him and me to sniff one another and to let the little guy get use to being in a strange place. They made one big mistake though, they let him off of the leash. He was able to make it under the gap in the fence that I cannot get out. The chase was on. For two hours mom, dad, and a bunch of our neighbors chased after this dog. One of the neighbors even brought out my friend Wiggles, who is also a dachshund, to see if he would lure the little dog to everyone trying to get it. Then the little dog took off and headed for the busy street. Mom and dad got into our truck and went after him. They didn't find him and mom was kinda bummed. When they pulled up at home there were some people in front of our house and they had him. So daddy got my hard crate down and they put him in that while they blocked the gap in the fence, and ate their dinner; they were not going to take any chances. That night he slept in my hard crate in the bedroom with us. He didn't make much noise, but I was snoring pretty hard and probably wouldn't have heard him anyways.
The next day mom told her class about what had happened with the little dog and showed them the flyer that daddy made up. Mom was going to put copies of the flyer up at the stores and post office. She was leaving school when one of her students told her he found out who the dog belonged to and ran home to get the flyer. He had a lost dog flyer that he saw up at the store. So mom called the number and sure enough it was their dog. So he spent one more night with us (we live like 37 miles from mom's school and she wasn't going to make another trip out there) and mom took him the next morning and returned him to his owners.
Here is a picture of what he looked like. I'm glad that he made his way back home. He was a cute dog, and pretty timid, but he was high maintance and I don't think that mom, dad, or I are ready for another dog yet.

Poor Velma
My sister Velma is sick. The poor thing is loosing her fur and is very self-conscious about it. At first it was just a small patch of fur, and then it seemed to grow back. But, then it really started falling out, so much that her whole back is naked! Mom and dad took her to the vet two days ago and found out that she has something called mites. The vet had to take a little patch of her skin to look at under something called a microscope. She has two medicines that she has to take twice a day and tomorrow she is going to get a bath and the same stuff that mom and dad put on me for my fleas and stuff. My sister Daphne is going to get that stuff also so that she doesn't get them. I heard mom telling dad that they need to get my flea stuff too so that I don't get the mites.
Here's a picture of the poor girl.
